Time-2-Talk Counselling
Everyone has different life experiences, and each person has a unique story to tell, which is why we use an integrated theoretical approach in our work. With approved therapists, Facet Therapy provides counselling and psychotherapy that incorporates recognised theories such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), Transactional Analysis (TA), Attachment Theory, and Creative Art to offer a rich therapeutic and creative experience.
Expressing your thoughts and feelings through talking or art forms can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and others. There may be times when words cannot explain or capture the essence of a feeling, but with the aid of creativity, imagination and taking a risk, it may be possible. During this powerful and yet enlightening process, your counsellor will continue to offer all you need to support you through this moment-to-moment experience.
Experiencing counselling in a safe space can help individuals explore and work through challenging life events. The therapist will support clients in discussing concerns or worries in confidence. In doing so, clients can achieve goals, reduce stress, manage anxiety, find hope through depression, and discover inner peace to ease the emotional or psychological distress caused by traumatic experiences or loss.
Assessment of Needs:
Before counselling begins, an Assessment of Need will be conducted. This enables therapists to gather essential information to make an informed assessment and support the clients’ needs. At the same time, clients will have the opportunity to ask questions about the counselling service and decide if it is suitable for them.
The initial meeting facilitates mutual understanding between both parties, clarifies aspects of confidentiality and expectations, and addresses responsibilities concerning fees, missed or cancelled appointments, late attendance, and breaks. These particulars are outlined in the Terms & Conditions, which can be downloaded (see above) or emailed to clients for review prior to their first meeting. The success of counselling relies on commitment and active participation during the sessions. The minimum number of sessions that can be offered is six. However, these can be extended into a longer-term arrangement, depending on the client's specific needs. Nevertheless, clients accessing counselling through their employer via the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) are only offered six sessions as part of their contractual agreement.
Top-up and Short-term Counselling: (6 – 12 Sessions):
Top-up sessions are only offered at the end of long-term counselling. They work similarly to short-term counselling, as sessions generally focus on issues currently affecting a client’s life. They are precise and task-oriented in their approach to facilitating change. Brief Counselling, Solution-Focused Therapy, or CBT are employed as effective methods to guide the work. Suggested small, manageable homework tasks (such as worksheets, learning strategies, relevant exercises, or listening to the breathing technique audio) may be provided to support the process. If the client feels confident and capable, they may choose to complete their assignment outside of the session or establish alternative tasks to enhance their well-being during their appointment.
On-going and long-term:
These sessions occur over an extended period, offering a more comprehensive, enriching, and intense therapeutic experience. They are common when emotional distress or anger, possibly stemming from past abuse or trauma, impacts the person’s behaviour or hinders healthy experiences. Sessions are typically weekly, but they can be twice weekly if there is a high risk of suicide or danger to the client or others. Reviews and assessments are frequent, particularly when psychological or physical changes happen or safety is at risk.
Online and Telephone Counselling:
Although face-to-face sessions are most popular, some individuals prefer alternative methods. We offer up to 50 minutes of online and telephone counselling. This flexible and convenient option allows you to connect from home or any other private space. Clients must ensure their digital security is up to date and free from malware to protect their contacts and confidentiality. All connections should be clear and stable for an effective therapeutic experience. This approach can also provide greater anonymity while delivering professional support.
Employee Assistance Programme (EAP):
Facet Therapy is an affiliate member of several Private Medical Insurance (PMI) providers. The healthcare professionals offer an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to staff, including legal advice, debt management support, a 24-hour helpline, and counselling. The current companies partnered with Facet Therapy are Bupa, Optima Health, and Spectrum Life for short-term counselling. As a note, AXA Health have transitioned to Spectrum Life, and Care First has also transitioned to Optima Health. Clients have now been informed of these changes.
If you are over 18 years old and are in education or employment, please check whether your organisation offers an EAP service. Once the opportunity is provided, you can access support through the contact details and arrange your first appointment. The practitioner within that team will discuss your options and direct you to the appropriate service, whether it is an assessment for counselling or speaking with another department, depending on your needs.
Consultations:
Individuals who would like to schedule a 25-minute telephone or online conversation to discuss concerns about themselves or another person can book these brief meetings. The therapist will determine the best course of action and guide you to the right support. In these meetings, the therapist has a duty of care to offer the same level of confidentiality and safeguarding practices governed within the BACP Code of Practice and Ethical Guidelines.

Mental Health Matters
Be mindful of those who may be struggling with their mental health. The signs are not always visible, but small acts of kindness and asking if someone is ok, will show you are thinking of them.
